JOE BOWIE'S BIG BAND FUNK

!

                           Big Band Funk ”

A  “life time” dream of Joe was to arrange the music of Defunkt into Big Band style.  In 1999 Joe’s brother, Byron arranged the first big band charts from a selection of classic Defunkt songs and the Defunkt Big Band was born. In the band was a “Who’s Who” of New York’s finest jazz musicians. The Debut concert was the Texaco Jazz Festival at the Knitting Factory in NYC.  Following the Defunkt Big Band did a European tour playing festivals in Finland, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. The sound is absolutely “awesome”, the groove and power undeniable. THERE IS NO BIG BAND SOUND COMPARABLE!!!...this is the sound of  the Legendary Defunkt merged into big band style. This formation is absolutely awesome!!!  Joe works with Universities, professional and youth big bands throughout the world performing this music in a residency situation.   Charts and mp3 samples for 17 piece big band are sent in advance so that the musicians may prepare  for the 3 day rehearsal with Joseph Bowie, where they will fully engage in the style, focus and high energy of this music.  A female vocalist is required to perform some of the songs and also do background vocals behind Joe.  The Bands conductor is very important to maintain the integrity of the performance while Joseph is performing - vocals/percussion/trombone.  See Big Band Funk video in "Links"
